The conceit with the painted redwood trees is that they are continuous above the wall. In certain lights and certain angles, it's almost believable.
The tree trunks on each side provide the natural break to the neighbor's (unpainted) part of the wall.
You don't see this view often, only when you come down the back side of the patio structure.
This is a sound wall, with a busy freeway on the other side. The mural serves to open up the space and give the sense of a calm vacation. The very rough cement block construction did not allow for much detail.
